DESCRIPTION | A French Vernis Martin style mahogany bureau de dame with a brass gallery to the top and three short drawers below.
The painted cylinder depicting a romantic scene with a courting couple, is raised automatically by pulling out the lower drawer. This fitted interior with three short drawers and a folding writing area inset with leather is supported by the open drawer. The whole embellished with gilt metal mounts, is raised on slim cabriole legs. The style is named after the Martin Brothers, four brothers who were active in France in the mid 18th century producing furniture in the reign of Louis XV. |
